....I Didn't See Any Underpants

After several museum filled days in both London and France it became rather commonplace to see nudes of men and women in portraits and sculpture.
At the Tate Britain
For example the statue of a nude man (in the above picture) wrestling a snake .......a little disturbing, if I'm being honest. Or the portrait (in the top right of the picture) of the woman reading in the nude. That painting was actually quite beautiful!
I began to appreciate the fact that the female subjects of the artwork weren't "airbrushed". They had real curves....there cheeks were fuller (the ones on their faces and their bottoms). Most of them had, what we now refer to as a "muffin top", and a little pooch on their belly. It became very refreshing and quite validating. But none more so than this sculpture....

Statue near the Louvre Museum.....the rated PG version. Tee, hee, hee....

Admittedly I originally took this picture because I thought my husband would get a good chuckle out of it. After all she does seems to have Arnold Schwarzenegger's neck and arms. But, the more I thought about it, the more I couldn't help thinking, to the artist this was beautiful. So while I didn't see many art subjects with their underpants still on, I did see a little bit clearer what "real" beauty looks like. Perhaps it's our imperfections which make us the most beautiful after all.

Now, repeat after me......
